Dear Birthmother,

“I can do all things through God who gives me strength”, Philippians 4:13. This is one of our favorite verses from the Bible. Hello, we are Tom and Moira, and we want to thank you for taking the time to read our letter, and for getting to know us. When Tom and I met 16 years ago, it was so comforting for each of us, to find someone whose faith, morals and values were so in sync with our own. Our faith is what defines us as individuals as well as a couple. It is what has supported us through the good times and the bad, through the excitement of starting a company and difficulties of family illnesses, through the joys of parenthood, and the loss of our own babies. We hope and pray your faith in God and the strength he provides, will give you comfort as you go through this difficult time.

Tom and I met when we both started competitive ballroom dancing. At that time, we both worked for the federal government as engineers. Tom has since started his own engineering consulting company and works out of the house. He is looking forward to spending lots of time with our new child. And since I am already a stay at home mom for our other 3 biological children, I look forward to filling my days with the smiles and laughter of our new baby.

Tom has vivid memories from his childhood of his parents giving back to the community, and helping family and friends. His father used to always take Tom and his brothers to change out Great Aunt Ann’s storm windows every spring, and put them back again in the fall, which was a huge job since her home was so large. And every fall they would rake all the elderly neighbors’ leaves and shovel their driveways in the winter. Helping others at such a young age made a profound impression on Tom and now as an adult, he is always helping our elderly neighbors with their leaves and snow removal, or helping his friends build a deck, put in a new door, or refinish their basement. Tom is an assistant soccer coach and helps out with the local Boy Scouts. He is also a multi-gallon blood donor, a platelet donor (which is a more complicated process) and registered to be a bone marrow donor.

As part of the sunshine committee, I am always making a meal for neighbors, friends and church members who have had a new baby, who just moved in, or who has an illness or a death in the family. I also volunteer at the church as a Sunday school teacher. I was an assistant for the Wee Praise preschool program for 2 years. I have run the Kids4Jesus (a Catholic boys and girls program) for the last 3 years. And I completed my 1 year training for the Montessori based Catechesis of The Good Shepherd religious education program last year and now am a Catechist in the 3-6 year old atrium at our church.

We feel the character and faith formation of our children is so important. We look forward to sharing the family rosary, grace, bedtime prayers, Mass, and Eucharistic adoration with our new little baby. We hope that the faith we share will help guide and give strength to our new child through the obstacles that will come his or her way in life.

If chosen to be your baby’s adoptive parents, you will be our angel sent from God. And in your child’s face we will see Jesus shining up at us, reminding us of your selfless generosity and undying love for your baby. Not a day will go by that we won’t thank God for the gift that you will have given us. We pray that God is cradling you in his loving arms right now.

Love, Tom and Moira
